Description of the School

The School of Civil and Water Resource Engineering is one of the four schools within the Institute of Technology at Woldia University, which was established in 2019.  The School has become independent since it grew from a Faculty of Technology to an Institute of Technology. The School of Civil and Water Resource Engineering was created by combining the previous four departments: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology and Management, and Water Resource and Irrigation Engineering.

In 2011, the university expanded its academic offerings by establishing the Department of Civil Engineering, which is dedicated to equipping students with the technical skills and knowledge essential for careers in design, analysis, and manufacturing within the engineering field. This initiative was further enhanced in 2012 with the creation of the Departments of Construction Technology and Management, followed by the Department of Water Resource and Irrigation Engineering in 2013. These departments emphasize the application of construction management and supervision, water resource management, and irrigation principles to develop innovative solutions across various industries. Building on this foundation, the Department of Architecture was established in 2018 to provide students with a comprehensive education in architectural design and technology, fostering creativity while addressing the practical and sustainable aspects of building and urban development. This progressive approach ensures that graduates are well-prepared to meet the challenges of their respective fields and contribute meaningfully to society.

The main goals of the school are to deliver high-quality education, engage in innovative research, and foster meaningful community involvement. It actively manages and supports its academic and administrative divisions, focusing on strategic planning, resource allocation, and performance assessment. The school seeks to adapt and develop new undergraduate and postgraduate programs in response to the changing needs of the country, promoting a collaborative atmosphere that tackles societal challenges through engineering solutions

The school aims to become one of the top five universities in Ethiopia in the fields of construction engineering by 2029.
