About the Department

Brief description about the department

Construction Technology and Management is an important application of science that significantly contributes to the social and economic development of modern society. Construction engineers need a broad understanding of scientific principles, materials, civil engineering, and the ability to analyze and synthesize solutions. This requires skills in research, teamwork, leadership, and business, all situated within a relevant social, economic, and environmental context. In Ethiopia, this field plays a crucial role in supporting economic development and improving living standards across various geospatial scales, both urban and rural. As the country experiences rapid growth, it is vital for construction technologists and managers to be professionally prepared to meet the challenges of sustainable development.

The rapid expansion of Ethiopia’s construction Industry has created a high demand for skilled professionals in construction technology and management. Gaps in construction practices and management highlight the need for an integrated approach that spans all project phases. With increasing infrastructure demands and urbanization, effective professionals must go beyond traditional design and engineering roles. The program aims to train individuals to manage construction projects efficiently, administer contracts, and conduct research to solve real problems. Graduates will be well-versed in structural, geotechnical, and highway engineering, along with construction technology and project management skills. The competencies of graduates can be summarized in key areas: Construction Technology, Construction Engineering, and Construction Management, enabling them to contribute effectively to the planning and management of infrastructure projects.
