Brief Description About The Department

Software Engineering program was started with the Computer Science Department from 2017 up to 2021 G.C. As computers were introduced into governmental and nongovernmental institutions, the need for trained manpower in Software Engineering was very vital.

After the decision of the University Senate on June 30/2020, the Software Engineering program was structured as an independent Department under the School of Computing. The Department stayed under the School of Computing until it was placed under the Institute of Technology in the new University structure in the 2021/2022 academic year.

The Department of Software Engineering is currently running a newly revised five -year BSc regular program. The Department offers several service courses in Software Engineering each semester to several hundreds of students of the departments in the School of Computing and teaching common courses for other departments like Computer programming , Emerging Technologies , Computer application courses. Additionally, Software Engineering staff members are giving community services for the societies; conducting research and technology transfer.

The Department uses two computer laboratories in the School with a total of 40 computers, all fully connected to the Internet through a University-wide network. These laboratories are used to conduct practical work for the BSc degree program, the service courses, and community service training.
