The School of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering is one of the four schools within the Institute of Technology at Woldia University, which was established in 2019.  The School has become independent since it grew from a Faculty of Technology to an Institute of Technology. The School of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering was formed by merging the former two departments, namely the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Chemical Engineering.

In 2011, the university added its academic offerings by establishing the Department of Mechanical Engineering, aimed at equipping students with the technical skills and knowledge necessary for careers in design, analysis, and manufacturing.
