Dean, School of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering

Message from the Deam

Dear Students, Faculty, Staff, and Community Members,

I am Shumye Girmay, the Dean of the School of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, and I would like to extend a warm welcome to all visitors. As Dean, I am proud to say that our school provides a vibrant learning environment where staff, students and community members engage in active learning, research, and community-based projects regularly.

Every day, our team works tirelessly to position our school as one of the top five universities in Ethiopia in the fields of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering. This is achieved through our commitment to high-quality teaching, innovative research, and meaningful community engagement.

Our school offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The undergraduate programs include Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering, two foundational disciplines essential to almost every aspect of the built environment and daily life. Engineers are problem solvers. We fix things, take things apart to understand them better, and then build new systems that work more efficiently and effectively than the original. Look around you everything that makes it possible for you to read this message was developed and continues to be improved by engineers. The work we do in our school contributes directly to advancing technology and enhancing the quality of life as mentioned earlier.

We are proud of our strong human resource base, which includes senior faculty members with extensive experience in various specialized fields. We are dedicated to creating innovations that can transform society in areas such as manufacturing, transportation, energy systems, robotics, and environmental protection.

At the School of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, we aim to balance our shared responsibilities by leading the development of new theories, research, and practices, while also serving as a training ground for the next generation of thought leaders in engineering.

I invite you to join our community whether through studying or researching with us, or by supporting us in other ways. Together, we can work toward creating solutions that will positively impact society.

Best regards,
