About the School

Description

The School of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering is one of the four schools within the Institute of Technology at Woldia University, which was established in 2019.  The School has become independent since it grew from a Faculty of Technology to an Institute of Technology. The School of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering was formed by merging the former two departments, namely the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Chemical Engineering.

In 2011, the university added its academic offerings by establishing the Department of Mechanical Engineering, aimed at equipping students with the technical skills and knowledge necessary for careers in design, analysis, and manufacturing. This initiative was further enhanced in 2016 with the establishment of the Department of Chemical Engineering, which focuses on the application of chemical processes and principles to develop innovative solutions in various industries.

Workshop and Laboratory Facility

The School of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering has several laboratories and workshop facilities including:

  1. Thermal and Energy System Engineering Laboratory
  2. Material Testing Laboratory
  3. Engineering Mechanics Laboratory
  4. Computer Laboratory
  5. Motor vehicle Engineering Laboratories
  6. Manufacturing Engineering Workshop such as Machine Shop, Sheet Metal Shop, welding shop and Wood Work Shop
  7. Environmental Engineering Laboratory
  8. Organic and analytical chemistry Laboratory
  9. Mechanical Unit Operation Laboratory and others

These facilities provide a comprehensive learning environment that enables students to gain practical experience and conduct innovative research.

Vision

The vision of the school is to become one of the top five universities in Ethiopia in the fields of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering by 2029.
