The School of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering is one of the four schools within the Institute of Technology at Woldia University, which was established in 2019. The School has become independent since it grew from a Faculty of Technology to an Institute of Technology. The School of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering was formed by merging the former two departments, namely the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Chemical Engineering.
In 2011, the university added its academic offerings by establishing the Department of Mechanical Engineering, aimed at equipping students with the technical skills and knowledge necessary for careers in design, analysis, and manufacturing. This initiative was further enhanced in 2016 with the establishment of the Department of Chemical Engineering, which focuses on the application of chemical processes and principles to develop innovative solutions in various industries.
The School of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering has several laboratories and workshop facilities including:
These facilities provide a comprehensive learning environment that enables students to gain practical experience and conduct innovative research.
The vision of the school is to become one of the top five universities in Ethiopia in the fields of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering by 2029.
The primary objectives of the school are to promote high-quality education, engage in innovative research, and provide valuable community engagement. The school is active in managing and supporting its academic and administrative divisions, engaging in strategic planning, resource allocation, and performance evaluation. It aims to adapt and introduce new undergraduate and postgraduate programs in response to the evolving needs of the country, fostering a collaborative environment that addresses societal challenges through engineering solutions.
