About the Institute

Overall Information of the Institute

Woldia Institute of Technology is among the youngest technology institutes in Ethiopia. The Institute was first established as Faculty of Technology on 2012 in line with the establishment of Woldia University. It was started by 3 departments (Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering). In 2019, the institute was upgraded to Woldia Institute of Technology (WiT).  

Currently, it is composed of four schools (School of Computing, School of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, School of Civil and Water Engineering and School of Electrical and Computer Engineering) and eleven departments.

Graduates from the institute today oversee most firms in Ethiopia’s industrial, educational, agricultural, and other economic growth sectors and work abroad. Since its inception, it has become a pioneering institute of technology, providing higher education in engineering and technology. The institute seeks to be premier in engineering and technology programs, preparing students to become entrepreneurs and innovators through a unique curriculum. Currently, 1865 students are enrolled in ten undergraduate programs and around five Master of Science programs. It contains 48 well-equipped laboratories that enable research and practical instruction, providing various technical supports to partners and key stakeholders in the country.

The institute is trying to solve practical community problems and teach practical courses based on its extensive experience in teaching, research, and community service. Furthermore, it is intended to have a national influence through the spread of technology tailored to the needs of the local community and the industrial sector. The institute has some international and national partners who are helping to facilitate teaching, research, and community service activities. Highly qualified instructors, technical assistants, and administrative staff support the learning, research, and community service activities.

To produce skilled and competent man power through the provision of quality education, conducting result oriented research and offering problem solving community service/engagement in technology and engineering aspects.
